Staff — Garden & Maintenance, and a heart to reach his neighbours through food and football.

I am David M. Nyirenda, married to Mirriam Nyirenda, and God has blessed us with two boys — Joshua, our first, who is seven years old, and Theophilus, who is four.
I did my DTS in 2004 right here at the Lusaka YWAM base. After my DTS I came back to staff three schools, then joined FMC as a staff. In 2011 I went to do FCD in Morogoro, Tanzania, and in 2012–13 I did another agriculture school in organic farming in Kitale. After graduation I came back to Zambia and joined a church called New Beginnings, where I served as a Youth Pastor and church administrator.
In October 2021 I came back to YWAM as a staff and I am currently in charge of the garden and maintenance.
I have a heart for Muslims — when I worked with the Frontier Missions Centre, I began reaching the Muslims of Somali origin using football, and by growing the vegetables and spices they mainly use. We mobilised youth football teams from different churches to play with them, and I built good relationships until I left for Tanzania.
What I have started doing
- The well-watered organic garden at the base is very productive again — we don't buy vegetables now; we have enough for use and for sale.
- Revamping the football matches with the Muslims of Somali origin living in Lusaka.
- Working towards church mobilisation, to help the body of Christ send missionaries abroad.
Objectives
- Share the passion of organic farming with the surrounding communities, using the garden as a demonstration place. Food and football unify — they know no race or religion.
- That, through vegetables and football, Christ will touch Muslim hearts and they will come to know our Lord Jesus Christ.
- That, as the body of Christ in Zambia awakens to support missionaries, many will be reached and many young people will GO.
Prayer & needs
- Books on organic farming and related materials.
- Footballs, two sets of jerseys, and tools for evangelism among Muslims and Somalis.
