Youth With A Mission is a movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups and Christian traditions. These eighteen values describe the beliefs and practices that have shaped the mission since 1960 — and shape life at Lusaka today.

Statement of purpose

Youth With A Mission is dedicated to presenting Jesus personally to this generation, to mobilising as many as possible to help in this task, and to training and equipping believers for their part in fulfilling the Great Commission.

The foundational values below express the beliefs, values and practices that have guided the mission since its beginnings. They are the family likeness we share with every YWAM base around the world — including here in Lusaka.

  1. Know God

  2. Make God known

  3. Hear God's voice

  4. Practice worship and intercessory prayer

  5. Be visionary

  6. Champion young people

  7. Be broad-structured and decentralised

  8. Be international and interdenominational

  9. Have a biblical Christian worldview

  10. Function in teams

  11. Exhibit servant leadership

  12. Do first, then teach

  13. Be relationship-oriented

  14. Value the individual

  15. Value families

  16. Practice dependence on God

  17. Practice hospitality

  18. Communicate with integrity

Living it out at Lusaka

  • We know God and make Him known through DTS, discipleship and daily community life.
  • We function in teams and champion young people, releasing Zambians and Africans into the nations.
  • We value families and practice hospitality — the base is a home as well as a training centre.

These values are not a checklist but a way of life. They shape how we pray, how we train, how we serve our neighbours in Lusaka, and how we send people to the ends of the earth.
